KISS Star Gene Simmons Is Much More Than A Rocker
Gene Simmons of the rock band KISS with me right after his presentation at the 2008 SuperConference in Nashville, an annual gathering of Glazer Kennedy Insider’s Circle.
Gene delivered a great presentation covering everything from his story about coming to America with his mom, to KISS’s financial success due to branding, to some real life business advice.
During the photo session I asked Gene about his thoughts on using video in your marketing and he said that he thinks it’s important PART of marketing, but that you should use all media.
That just confirms what Dan Kennedy has been always saying: “There is no 1 way to get 100 customers, but there are 100 ways to get 1 customer”.
Oh, and if you are looking at the picture and thinking if the shirt’s collar was my idea or Gene’s, it was his. He just looked at me, fixed the collar and said “that’s better”. Can’t argue with “The Beast”.
Another great speaker that came back this year by popular demand was Nido Qubein, president of High Point University. His presentation was very motivational and uplifting, some of his quotes were:
“If you want to be rich, find out what poor people do and don’
t do it.”
“Life is not about risk avoidance, life is about risk management.”
“Never again in your life you should get involved until you ask some questions:
What is the best thing that can happen as a result of this action?
What is the most likely thing that can happen?
What is the worst thing that can happen?
If the most likely thing can get me closer to my goal and if I can deal with the worst thing that can happen = good deal.”
I also met George Ross, Donald Trump’s chief negotiator and star of the show The Apprentice (George was Donald Trump’s eyes and ears on the first few seasons of the show).
In his presentation, George spoke about negotiating in both business and life and told some interesting stories about negotiations for Donald Trump.
Then in the hallway I asked him if Gene Simmons was really fired from the Celebrity Apprentice or if he wanted out (that was my guess, because if you’ve seen the episode, he was given every way out) and George confirmed that Gene had some other engagements and wanted out.
When I asked him about Omarosa, George just laughed and said that she is not coming back as far as he knows. I thought that she was just borderline annoying in the Celebrity Apprentice and didn’t really add any value to the show. Maybe NBC’s ratings were higher? Not sure. I’ve been watching the show since it’s first season, and didn’t miss an episode. Not because I’m a big fan of reality shows, but because in every episode there is at least one business lesson to learn. You can check out what the show is about at NBC.com
Besides all these great people, I met many Glazer-Kennedy Insider’s Circle members that stopped by our booth in the exhibit hall. I’m already registered for the next year’s SuperConference and would strongly recommend to anyone that want’s to learn about marketing directly from Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer to attend.
I promise the next posts will be shorter with focus on Video Marketing Strategies.
